The Last Stand
It's crazy to think that today is the last day of the Convention. In one way it seems like I've been here for a month working registration booth, the NACA booth, setting up, talking to people, etc. And on the other hand it seems like I just got here and this entire time has just been a blur.
I Believe in Yesterday
CAMP yesterday was an experience. I was manning the booth, minding my own business, when the floor started trembling slightly. Slowly I turned my head and in slow motion I saw mobs of elated girls running down the aisle towards the NACA booth. Now I know that we have some really cool t-shirts and sweatshirts (one from Cornell... I don't know if you've ever heard of it) for the NACA Foundation, we have some great issues of Programming magazine that we're giving away, and other great info at the booth; but I was pretty sure they weren't running into each other and smiling until it hurt just because they were coming to our booth. I asked someone next to me what ruckus was about and they informed me that they were waiting in line for Lance Bass.
Lance Bass booth 1, NACA booth 0
I'm just going to have to step up my game with the NACA website so next year we can get people to swarm to our booth that way. Next year Lance.... next year.
I forgot to mention that Dawn Thomas from the NACA office went outside of CAMP while everyone was lining up for Lance and so evilly told them that he had already left and they wouldn't be able to see him. It was a cruel act indeed, but after all the work Dawn has done with this Convention, she deserved to have a little fun. She then told everyone she was just joking (out of fear for her life).
Also, I saw D.M.C from Run D.M.C. so that was cool. I didn't know he was going to be here. If I had known he was coming I would have practiced up on my mad hip-hop skills and maybe we could have performed a showcase together or something, I don't know. Think about it D.M.C., I'll have my people call your people.
The Beginning of the End
I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing today, but I know it involves CAMP, another CAMP, the Foundation Auction (don't miss it! the bidding closes at 4:40 today) and then breaking things down and packing them up. Maybe I do know what I'm doing today...
My first time Convention experience has been great. Even though I asked a lot of questions beforehand to try and figure out what was going to happen here, it's just one of those types of things you have to see to understand. Registration can not be processed with the mind, it has to be experienced member by member, question by question, name tag badge by name... OK you get it.
I got the chance to meet some really great people, people who are committed to NACA (some for many years) and others who are new like me who see the benefits of what NACA has to offer students, associates and professionals. I'll try to post more later if I get the chance, I keep checking to see how many people are reading the blogs, so thanks to all of you who are!
